You might want to consider interviewing the family members before you start interviewing healthcare providers. One of the advantages to that is that if the family starts asking you questions about what happened or who did what, the only information you have is what you have from written documentation you haven't heard any of the opinions or speculation yet and therefore it might be easier to not get led into speculating what happened.
