Ventilation with a face mask performed by one healthcare workerThe most commonly used technique is the one-handed CE-clamp. Hold the mask on the patient’s face with one hand using your thumb and index fingers to make the shape of a “C”. At the same time, place your third, fourth, and fifth fingers underneath the patient’s jaw in the shape of an “E” and tilt their chin up. Once a good seal has been secured, squeeze the bag with your other hand. This technique is used during resuscitation and intubation procedures for anesthesia. The two-handed CE-clamp or VE-clamp may be used in cases of intubation where there is a second person present to help with ventilation.
