Background InformationKevin Von Holtz is a 42-year-old male who is employed seasonally for a construction company and also works odd jobs such as mowing lawns or doing tree removal. He also receives financial assistance from EI and Alberta Works. Kevin lives with his girlfriend, Valerie, who works part time as a waitress. They have been together for three and a half years and live in a basement suite. Kevin began using cannabis regularly in high school, once he graduated, he began working in construction for his uncle. His coworkers introduced him to cocaine and psychedelics which he began using recreationally a few times a month. In his mid-20s he tried methamphetamine and quickly became addicted. Since then, he has experienced periods of homelessness, multiple unstable relationships with other addicts, and has had difficulty maintaining consistent employment.
Kevin’s parents both struggled with substance-abuse during his childhood. He had an older brother that died in his 20s due to an accidental overdose of heroin. Kevin was charged with assault in 2016 after an altercation between himself and his then girlfriend outside of a bar when they were both intoxicated. She sustained multiple injuries including a broken nose and multiple bruises and abrasions.
Over the past few years he has frequently presented to the emergency department for complaints of paranoia while under the influence of methamphetamine. Each time, he leaves against medical advice (AMA) once he sobers up. He has been escorted from the emergency room multiple times by peace officers for disorderly conduct and verbal abuse towards other patients and staff. Due to his employment issues, Kevin does not have any health insurance and does not have a primary care physician. He has no known medical diagnoses or prescriptions. |
