ChallengingExperts make decisions differently than non-experts. Much research is available on this subject, but this neat little diagram from Clark (2013) sums it up nicely: When using scenario-based learning, regardless of the delivery mode, learners on the left faced with ill-structured problems may experience "flounder factor" where they waste time trying every possible solution without method or rationale to guide their choices. For these learners it is necessary to structure the case to reproduce the phases of problems solving seen on the right, whereas for more advanced learners, more open-ended/unstructured cases may be more productive. |
