The ambulance arrivesThe back door of the ambulance swings open and the paramedic and driver carry out a young man on the stretcher. You watch from beneath the canopy of the ambulance bay, sheltering from the heavy rain, ready to receive your first 'multi trauma'. The paramedic summarises his interventions: '24 year old male. The passenger was in a head-on collision with a lorry. The driver dead at the scene. Wasn't wearing a belt.' 'This chap's name is Andy. He was talking at the scene. We put a collar on him, sited a line and gave him a litre of saline. He's complaining of pain in his abdo.' 'All yours!' |
