Now that the patient is actively vomiting, you protect the airway (A) by first turning the patient onto their side. You and your emergency team have decided to turn to the right. The vomit drains out, and the nurse now has time to connect the suction device and clear the remaining vomit; the patient has not desaturated.

Regardless of how far you have progressed in your examination, you now start over with your ABCDE assessment.
