A dress issue

Larry, your new Resident, shows up in clinic still dressed in scrubs from the hospital.

You remind him that the clinic policy is not to wear hospital greens in the clinic for a number of reasons, including infection control. He replies that he will bear that in mind in future but does not want to be late in starting clinic this morning.

How would you deal with the 'scrubs' issue?

  • Tell him that rules are rules and send him back to the hospital to change immediately
  • Give him some leeway since he is new here and see what happens tomorrow
  • Ask him to go back to the hospital and change during the mid-morning break
  • Praise him for making best use of clinical time for learning opportunities
  • Discuss the subtleties of nosocomial infections and whether the risk of contamination is significant

When you have sorted the above options into your order of preference, most appropriate down to least appropriate, you can then move on to the next section.
