What's in a name?

While we must be sensitive to the needs of those who express a non-binary gender, there are also other situations in which knowing which pronouns to use can be helpful.

For example, in English, there are many names which can be either gender. Jamie (especially in Scotland) was originally a diminutive for James and is a boy's name, but in North America, it is more commonly a girl's name. Leslie and Lesley are similar names, with a spelling which suggests the gender but that is not universal.

Some parents will intentionally choose a gender-neutral given name e.g. Alex, Taylor, -- https://www.whattoexpect.com/baby-names/unisex-baby-names/

So, there are many reasons why one might want to specify a pronoun set.
