Proteus EffectIn some team-based learning situations, the power dynamics in the group can get in the way. Do you find that your dominant/bossy learners tend to take over the discussion? Do you need ways to bring out the opinions and discussion points of your more reserved participants? In the past, we have found it quite helpful to create cases where learners are placed into different roles during the play of the case. This is very helpful in Interprofessional Education and can help to raise the appreciation of the problems and challenges seen in other disciplines. But in itself, role-switching does not necessarily help with communication styles. This is where the Proteus Effect comes in. We have done some interesting work in the past, exploring the Proteus Effect, described here in more detail. We would be happy to explore this further with any groups that are interested: please don't hesitate to contact us. |
