Additional information on Mr Proctor

You ask Mr Proctor some more questions:

• Past medical history - he has enjoyed good health most of his life. He had an appendectomy at the age of 14 but no other operations. He has had several chest infections, particularly in the winter, requiring antibiotics.

• Family history - his wife has type II diabetes. He has 2 sons, both of whom are well, but his daughter died at the age of 35 from breast cancer.

• Drugs - he takes paracetamol occasionally and salbutamol when he has a chest infection.

• Review of systems - He has a chesty cough, worse in the morning. He has occasionally brought up some blood in the last month. He is short of breath after walking up stairs.

• He has not had any vomiting or diarrhoea. He has always been skinny, but perhaps he has lost a bit of weight recently.

• His joints frequently hurt in the morning, a problem he has had for many years from playing tennis.
