Positive examples of sharing

Now you might be thinking that all this stuff about sharing and playing nicely together is rather reminiscent of kindergarten, earth mother stuff, Granola and clogs.

In our group, we have tried the other approach: cost-recovery, ROI, etc.

We had limited success. We have had much more success in gaining funding, and collaborative cross-feeds, etc, since we adopted a Creative Commons and Open Educational Resources approach.

Kinda like open-source software. Now, bear in mind that open-source means free... not as in beer, not as in Nelson Mandela, but as in puppy. Ya still gotta look after it.

In our own Clinisnips series on YouTube, we were able to benefit by sharing, not just by getting better funding, but also by being able to repurpose the videos of others. eg. Vandenbos toenail surgery

MIT OpenCourseWare (http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm) and Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org/) are famous examples of what can be achieved with open collaboration. Funders like it!
